Hotels and Guest Houses
Hotels and Guest Houses
by: David Brights
You will find a significant difference in both price and facilities between hotels and guest houses in the UK. Hotels usually offer breakfasts, lunches, teas, dinners, a licensed bar and a range of services and facilities to suit individuals, families and often business groups. Country house hotels will often add recreational facilities in their grounds such as golf, tennis, swimming, health spas, gyms and attended play areas for children. Top league international hotels in London and major cities offer comprehensive amenities and services for business and holiday guests, and a choice of first class and luxury accommodation. Guest houses may not have bars or offer lunch or teas, but will have television and sitting lounges.
In England and Wales, the AA, RAC (the largest UK motoring organisations) and the English Tourist Council have come together to provide an overall star for hotels and diamond rating for guest accommodations, including bed and breakfast. Hotels have between one and five stars; guest accommodations between one and five diamonds. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, all tourist accommodations are also graded regularly to provide a clear indication of the level of facilities you can expect.
Bed and Breakfast
Bed and breakfast accommodation, advertised by the famous 'B&B vacancies' sign, is mostly in private homes and the emphasis is on bedrooms rather than on facilities such as a bar or restaurant. They are often the least expensive form of guest accommodation although prices vary between those in the most popular holiday locations and those offering stopovers 'en route'.
Thousands of bed and breakfasts have been visited anonymously by tourist officers to be inspected for a diamond rating of between one and five stars. This is intended as a guide to the quality of accommodation and food on offer.
As private homes, including farmhouses and working farms, B&Bs tend to offer a very personal welcome, and an insight into British ways of life in different parts of the country. Breakfast is intended to fill you and will often include bacon, eggs, fried bread, tomatoes, even fried potatoes and local additions such as black pudding. Or you can enjoy a 'continental' breakfast: cereal, bread, toast, tea, coffee and juice.
There are many hostels located all over England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Hostels vary in style and amenities but they offer bedrooms with between two and six beds for young people, families and groups. They usually provide substantial breakfasts and dinners at low prices and have communal kitchen facilities if you prefer to cater for yourself.
The main hostel organisations are the Youth Hostel Association (YHA), the Scottish Youth Hostel Association (SYHA) and Hostelling International Northern Ireland (HINI). You do not have to be a 'youth' to stay because there is no upper age limit (in Scotland the lower age limit is 5). But you do have to be a member of the YHA or SYHA, which involves paying a small annual membership fee. There are also a variety of independent hostels offering accommodation. Staying in hostels is traditionally popular with people pursuing backpacking, walking, cycling or generally exploring outdoor pursuits. But there are also hostels in many towns and cities, which enable members to enjoy good basic accommodation on a low budget.

Dog Breed Profile - Greyhound
Dog Breed Profile - Greyhound
by: Stephanie Bayliss
There are conflicting opinions regarding the origin of the Greyhound, from the Celts who believed that they came from Greece, to the Romans who believed that they came from Gaul (in Western Europe), with many varying opinions inbetween.
There are ancient pictures which date back to 6000BC in the city of Catal-Huyuk in present-day Turkey, depicting dogs very similar in type to Greyhounds. Pictures from 4000BC found on a funery vase in Iran also depict Greyhound-like dogs which suggest that these dogs were held in the highest regard. Ancient artists tended only to depict images of religious or social importance.
Greyhounds have an extremley elegant and graceful appearance; slender but also strong. They are propelled by extremely strong hindquarters; when they run it appears effortless and truly beautiful.
It is a pleasure to watch these dogs race, with their long neck and face set on their long, slender frame.
Greyhounds come in a massive variety of colours; Black, red, white, blue, fawn, fallow, brindle or any of these colours broken up with white
Despite what most people think, these dogs can be real couch potatoes! Although they are capable of short bursts of speeds of upto 64km/hr, they are not blessed with great amounts of endurance, so love to get home after walkies and sleep it off!
They are great family pets; kind and gentle with their families and very affectionate. They may be a little aloof with strangers, but never nasty.
However, their history must be remembered; they were bred to course and race and therefore have tendencies to chase and catch small things; this can include smaller dogs, cats and other small pets. They must be very carefully socialised with smaller dogs and extreme care should be taken around cats.
With their short coats, they will only require a very minimal amount of time spent on grooming.
Two 20 minute walks a day is ample for these dogs - they particularly enjoy getting home to relax after their walkies!! Real care should be taken with allowing these dogs off lead - unless they are EXTREMELY well trained, they are liable to run off and chase any small thing that moves - and at 64km/h, there is no chance you'll be able to catch them!!
Greyhounds can be prone to injury when expelling their pent up energy! They don't really suffer from any genetic diseases; they can be a little sensitive to drugs although vets should be aware of this if treating them.

I was just looking around for a comm that I would feel more at home in. ;-) I hope this one is it. ;-)
I have recently discovered the wonderful world of Neopets and I have been busy there ever since. ;-)
I have four neopets right now...the max that you can have. ;-) I started out with one to see how much I would like it and I have fallen in love with it. ;-) Currently, all of mine are blue...but my first one was red, then green, then blue. ;-) My second one I adopted, which just happened to be blue...my last two, I picked blue for them. ;-) I do not belong to any guilds yet so far...there are so many around how do you know which one to pick? I'm new to the community and just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm from NZ, 18 and addicted to neopets. My neopets username is lilt1333 so feel free to neofriend me. Oh and I'm currently trying to get the packrat avatar (slow, slow progress) so I only have close to 200NP.

Well I started playing neopets again... It's been almost a year since my last account was hacked... It had ALOT of sentimental value and i lost my will to play... It had stuff my boyfriend and friends bought for me over the years... xmas... birthdays... etc... It also had a maloeviant sentinel poogle and a couple other pets but i mention him cuz he is one of the rarest neopets in the entire game and can only be gotten with the lab ray. I still havent really played much with my new account because i had company over memorial weekend. But I just thought i'd say if you were on my friendlist before, or just want new neofriends feel free to add my new name: platinumdreams My pet is a blue Shoyru named Tobikkiri currently still level 1 and all. Also I'm interested in joining either a roleplaying (in character) guild and/or a guild for older kiddies (Just turned 23) So let me know if your guild is recruiting.

Is neopets going extremely slow for anyone else?

Wow this is great! I was beginning to think I was "too old" to be playing neopets and their games, but I am having fun and have become addicted myself. I am glad there is a community on LJ for us over 18 who play there. I am 34 and have played Neopets since February after being introduced to it by my daughter. I have looked at the guilds pages and have wondered about if I should join one or not because I would rather join something where there are adults and it takes so long to sift through all the guilds. Anyways, I started with a red eyrie named Saatyre and now I have 3 other pets because I wanted to take care of more! I am trying to "educate" Saatyre enough to be on the book club list, so I am trying to keep my eyes out for good deals on books! Any tips about making neopoints easily would be most welcome! Just spreading the word that my neopets account was hacked, if you ever hear from a person called neoanimegoddess do not reply. i have emailed neopets and told them to delete this account as soon as possible im not going into details here until it is taken care of. I know it was hacked because the other day with the new security code i couldnt get in and then today, there was a new neopet, a peophin, which i did not own, so that account is being used by someone other than me, I have NEVER given my password, nor have i EVER used any third party programs... I believe that the neopets database was bruteforced and that they know of the issue hence the new security code going into effect.
I will return on a new account again someday. but for now im a little traumatized to lose 3 years of my hard work etc.
good luck neopia, see you around in a few weeks - months ^^

Hola, found this community quite by accident, but it's kinda neat. :o) I've been on neopets for the past 3 years (username lab99002) and I have to say that it's getting somewhat boring. I'm hoping that things start to pick up soon.
Anyways, I wanted some advice and since I can't seem to get it anywhere else, I thought I'd try this. I'm debating selling my Hypno Helmet. I've had it since they first came out and were like 100k np, but I really don't battle that much anymore at all. Really, just for wars...so I was thinking about selling and collecting interest on it and just useing the terror stone when I do battle...then again, those are 30k and breakable and wars mean A LOT of fighting. So what do you all think? Thanks. :)

New Pet site
I've discovered yet another virtual pet site. It's alot like neopets in some ways but also alot different. It is VERY difficult to keep the pets happy and pets CAN die or run away. Also you can breed pets to create new pets. You can also own multiple shops, write your own books, and have 4 player battles at the arena! thats right, you and up to 3 of your friends can fight it out.
Plus it has a storyline driven quest and lots of other neat features.
Of course there are the ussual flash games, shops, contests, etc, etc but there's alot more too! And the pets are cute. i really reccomend checking it out ;)

Just yesterday I remembered my Neopets password after trying to remember it for over a year. Now I'm completely out of the loop. Can someone tell me what's going on in Neopets? What are some new things to do?

There's a new site like neopets only even better, soon pets will be able to EVOLVE ala pokemon it's very very cool!! It's a new site as I said so there arent as many features as neopets YET but I truely believe it will surpass neopets and blow them clear out of the water! the artwork is lovely. Which is a problem I have with MANY free virtual pet sites, who wants a pet if its ugly as mud?!
NOT THE CASE HERE nope. So come on over and check it out!! ITS AWESOME!!!http://www.nutrinopets.com/signup.php?referrer=rpg_goddess
